An interactive journey toward discovering the sources of a flourishing marriage

Next Session Starting June 1, 2008 Contact Us

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!  Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken."

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Why choose premarital counseling through 2to1?

"Most people spend more time preparing for their drivers license than for their marriage.  There are SAT prep courses, birthing classes, and parenting classes.  Why do so many couples think that getting married only involves planning the wedding—and the honeymoon?"

  • Research is showing that how a couple weathers their first two years together can make or break their marriage.
  • "Newlywed blues" is real and should be prepared for as much as “post-vacation blues.”  It is critical, however, that the blues does not evolve into disillusionment.
  • Premarital programs have been shown to
improve relationship skills and prevent divorce (Berger and Hannah, 1999).
  • Marital success in the first two-years greatly reduces the chance of divorce.
  • In premarital courses couples learn vital relationship skills used to strengthen their marriage.
  • When couples attend premarital counseling they are much more likely to attend future marriage education programs as needed.
  • Premarital courses encourage married couples to seek marital therapy early on rather than waiting until they are ready for divorce.

“The dignity of a vocation is always to be measured by the seriousness of the preparation for it.

How then do we appraise marriage?”

R. Herbert Newton

When should we attend?

Couples should consider attending the 2 to 1 Course either immediately prior to getting engaged, or immediately following engagement.

CAUTION!  This course is not designed to take 1-2 months prior to the wedding date, unless absolutely necessary.  It is a course that should be taken early enough to provide continued insight into the compatibility of the individuals involved.
